Z tego na mobilizację przypadło 1.5 miliona- 800 tysięcy do armi państw centralnych i 700 tysięcy do armii rosyjskiej. Takie wyliczenia podaje w zarysie historii Polski Krzystof Groniowski. Jeśli chodzi o straty ludzkie to wedle wyliczeń Lecha Trzciankowskiegozamieszczonych w dziejach Polski – w trzech armiach na różnych frontach- oblicza się około 450 tysięcy osób. O ” wojnę ludów ” modlił się Mickiewicz, upatrującw niej dla Polski i Polaków szansy na niepodległość. I wreszcie nadweszła Pokojowi zagroziły przedewszystkim mocarstwowe dążenia Niemiec.
